Foot Joint Leaks

I just got a gorgeous new Selmer USA open-holed flute - not the very best, but definitely better than my old one. After playing for a few months I realized that I get reocurring leaks in my foot joint (middle C, B keys). I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to minimize the reocurrence of these leaks? The pads are fine, btw, I think it's in the springs or something.

If you hold the keys and twist it on you can make the keys not close as well. I don't know a lot about flute repair, but I've been told to not hold the keys when I am putting on my foot joint because it can make the keys not close all the way.
