Foot Joint Leaks

I just got a gorgeous new Selmer USA open-holed flute - not the very best, but definitely better than my old one.  After playing for a few months I realized that I get reocurring leaks in my foot joint (middle C, B keys).  I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to minimize the reocurrence of these leaks?  The pads are fine, btw, I think it's in the springs or something.

How do you put your foot joint on? If you hold the keys and twist it on you can make the keys not close as well. I don't know a lot about flute repair, but I've been told to not hold the keys when I am putting on my foot joint because it can make the keys not close all the way.
